Wood Countertops For Your Kitchen or Bar
Wood countertops for your kitchen or bar are similar in design and construction to cutting boards with a few exceptions: Countertops are not intended to be reversed, so the underside is not finished like the top but it is sealed with Spar Polyurethane to protect your countertop from warping. Like cutting boards, the top and sides are finished with my own mixture of food grade mineral oil and beeswax, a combination that is safe for direct food contact. If you prefer, I will finish the top with spar poly or pour-on epoxy.
Wood countertops are available in four categories: End Grain Exotic, End Grain Domestic, Face Grain Exotic and Face Grain Domestic. Domestic woods include Rock Maple, Black Walnut, Cherry and Hickory. Exotics include Birdseye Maple (Face Grain Countertops only), Bubinga, Wenge, Padauk, Bocote and, when available and at a premium price, Cocobolo. Exotics may be combined with domestics for color variance. None of my countertops use any kind of stain. All colors come from the natural wood colors.
All countertops are twenty-five and a half inches deep and one and a half inches thick. Prices listed below are accurate as of May 1, 2015, but when I give the initial estimate and collect a 50% down payment, it is based on the pricing I have updated before the estimate. The final price is given when I have purchased all the materials. There will be no price adjustment after that unless you want to change what you have contracted with me.
